Composition, Color & Personal Expression with David Lussier & Pam SimpsonDescription: "We strive to teach the building blocks of plein air painting while nurturing each person’s individual style and personality. Every good landscape painting is rooted in sound painting principles and the truth that we find in nature. In order for a painting to be of personal expression, the artist must infuse it with his or her own imagination, personality and inventiveness. We work with each student toward this important goal." Each day begins with a demo and discussion about the painting process followed by individual painting and instruction. Each day there will be a different emphasis on the approach to plein air painting to help you tackle the outdoor subject in a sensible way. We will hold a class critique at the end of each day for those who would like to participate. We give individual critiques thru ought the week to help point out and improve on weak areas while emphasizing the strong areas of your skill level. Dates: June 9-13, 2008, 9am-4pm Fees: $525 for Members, and $575 for Nonmembers Related LinksInstructor Bios: David & Pamela share a common passion for teaching plein air workshops and are known for their ability to convey information in a warm and friendly manner. Their workshops have been in great demand over the past several years. They have been featured in recent publications of American Artist Workshop, Fine Art Connoisseur and American Art Collector magazines. David Lussier is an accomplished plein air artist whose landscapes of sparkling autumn hillsides, muted spring days of melting snow or fishing boats under a hazy summer sky convey his passion for New England and for fine art. He has dedicated himself not only to his profession, but also to being a steward for the landscape that is his inspiration and to sharing his love for his craft with others. Only by painting en plein air can he react to the ever-changing, energy-charged world of nature at his brush tip with a spirit and spontaneity unobtainable in the controlled environment of the studio. He produces landscapes in a broad-brush bravura style using a narrow palette of colors. Lussier is a true believer that less is more in painting and the brushstroke is an artwork's essence. He is a Signature member of the National Academy of Plein Air Painters, The Laguna Plein Air Painters Association and an Artist member of the Rockport Art Association, North Shore Arts Association and the Hudson Valley Art Association. He is also an Elected artist and past president of the Connecticut Plein Air Painters Society. He has studied with Charles Sovek and Charles Movalli. Lussier has won numerous awards and accolades for his work as a fine artist and his paintings are widely collected and exhibited. Pamela Simpson Lussier is a contemporary painter who weaves together impressionist brush strokes and realism. A 1978 graduate of the Art Institute of Boston, Pam has been painting and teaching classes and workshops for more than twenty years. . Pam's oil paintings are rich in tactile language with her ability to create a tangible feeling of space and form with both line and color. She strives to keep an overall abstract quality to the foundation of her paintings while satisfying the viewer's need to identify with the impression. Her work has been featured in Connecticut Magazine, American Artist Magazine and American Artist Workshop. She is a Signature member of the National Academy of Professional Plein Air Painters and an Elected artist member of the Connecticut Plein Air Painters Society. She has exhibited her work extensively, and her paintings hang in many private collections.
