Painting the Figurative Subject, Principle and Practice - Robert LemlerDescription: This five day painting workshop will offer the student an opportunity to study the art and practice of painting the figurative subject from life. Students will enjoy painting portraits as well as the nude and costumed model. Through lecture and demonstration, Lemler will share principles of academic figure painting which will guide the practitioner's understanding of tone, color, and edge relationships. "The gamut of paint, in color and value, is far smaller than the corresponding gamut in our visual world. Shape, tone, color, edge, and texture are to be interpreted relative to one another, not copied piecemeal!" With this understanding, the student of painting seeks the simplification and orchestration of these interdependent elements of painting. The real quest is for unity of design and concept. Topics addressed will include: pictorial design, posing and lighting of the subject, "warm" and "cool" light sources, and more! Dates: Monday-Friday, September 15-19 , 2008, 9am-4pm Fees: TBA Related LinksInstructor Bio: Robert Lemler, educated at the University of Northern Arizona, is a respected and dedicated artist and teacher.
