The Language and Practice of Life Drawing - Ned Jacob

Description: Working from the live model in two sessions daily, students will gain confidence and fluency in this most essential discipline. Through lectures, demonstrations and personal interaction, Ned Jacob will share the knowledge and insight that has made him, arguably, one of the most respected draftsman of his generation. Neophytes will welcome this opportunity to gain a sound introduction to figure drawing; professionals will value this focused five day seminar to sharpen tools grown dull through neglect.

Subjects discussed will be:

  • hiring, posting and lighting a model
  • exploring the exquisite relationship between media and working surfaces
  • correct drawing posture and address to the format
  • drawing vis-a-vis rendering
  • breathing life into your life drawing
  • commitment

Instructor Bio: Ned Jacob is a distinguished artist/lecturer celebrated for his devotion to traditional values of craftmanship and excellencein the plastic arts. His works have been widely exhibited and are numbered in many public and private collections. Jacob's career has been featured in American Artist, Southwest Art, and in major award-winning monograph authored by Sandra Dallas (Fenn Galleries 1979). He is listed in Who's Who in American Art, is a members of the Chelsea Arts Club, London, The National Art Club and Salmagundi Club in New York City, and currently has studios in Santa Fe, NM and Skowhegan, ME.
