Lyme Art Association To Celebrate Wildlife Sculpture of Artist Charles Saltsman in a Memorial Presentation

The Lyme Art Association , at 90 Lyme Street , Old Lyme Connecticut , will present wildlife sculptural works by Charles M. Saltsman in their “Wonders of Winter” exhibition which opens Friday, January 20 with a reception from 6-8pm . The public is invited to attend and admission is free. The exhibition is on view through March 4.

Charles Saltsman (1929 -2005) was an artist-engineer whose unique mosaic sculptures of wildlife incorporated rare and exotic wood from around the world combined with modern technology polyester and epoxy compounds to create birds, animals and other creatures. His wildlife sculpture blends realistic anatomy, coloration and physiology with a lighthearted feeling for their special place in a world they do not dominate.

“We are pleased to share with our artist members and the public these examples of Charles Saltsman’s animal sculptures,” states Bob Potter , Executive Director of the Lyme Art Association . “His bird and animal sculpture combine traditional elements of wood carving with modern material technology to create an often whimsical view of nature.”

Charles Saltsman was a graduate of Andover and MIT and for over 30 years was an engineering executive while pursuing the creation of these unique creatures in his spare time. His works have won numerous awards and are found in various private collections.
