Old Lyme, CT - The Lyme Art Association , 90 Lyme Street , will present “Lyme Light” its annual summer exhibition and sale of paintings from July 14 through September 9. In addition to the nearly 200 works of art on view by member artists, which are selected for exhibition by jury, “Lyme Light” will include a special exhibition of paintings by the The Guild of Boston Artists in the Association’s Goodman Gallery. An opening reception, free to the public, is scheduled for Friday July 14 from 6-8pm with music and refreshments. “The wonderful quality of summer light in Old Lyme is what first attracted the American Impressionists to paint in our area at the beginning of the 20th century and is the inspiration for the “Lyme Light” exhibition,” notes Bob Potter , Executive Director of the Lyme Art Association . “We are delighted to have such variety and quality of representational and impressionist artwork for display and sale by our artist members in what has become one of our most popular exhibitions of the year.” The Lyme Art Association will also be hosting an invitational exhibition of paintings by members of The Guild of Boston Artists, founded in the early 20th century by leading Boston painters and continues today as a gallery and association of leading contemporary representational artists. “This will be the first time that members of The Guild of Boston Artists have exhibited their work at a Lyme Art Association exhibition,” notes Elizabeth Hamilton, Director of The Guild of Boston Artists who is coordinating the exhibition. “The opportunity to showcase these paintings by leading New England artists in Old Lyme promises to make for a very exciting exhibition for the public. It’s also interesting to note that the Guild of Boston Artists was founded in 1914, the same year the Lyme Art Association was incorporated. Our founding artists shared many of the same artistic ideals in that they were dedicated to representational painting and sculpture, and this tradition lives on today in both organizations.” Another special event of the “Lyme Light” exhibition will be the annual "Art & Animals" paint out, a traditional family favorite, with live farm animals on the grounds of the LAA "posing for their portraits" by local artists throughout Saturday, July 29th from 9am-3pm . The Art Association will also be holding their annual "Anything Goes Art Sale" Saturday, July 29th from 10am- 5pm and Sunday, July 30th from 1-5pm . Each year Lyme Art Association artists bring in their artwork for this fun “bargain” sale during the Midsummer Festival when hundreds of visitors will be visiting Old Lyme. Proceeds from the art sale will go to the ongoing restoration of the historic Lyme Art Association Gallery. |
