Painting Clinic: Maintaining Unity - Karen WinslowDescription: Why is it that some paintings read well from far away and other paintings, although well-drawn and detailed, fall apart when viewed from a distance? It is because a good painting is always uunified. Too often, artists get hung up in copying detail before seeing the underlying structural masses, and he/she forgets that all parts are interdependent and interrelated to maintain color harmony, spatial harmony and overall unity. In this class we will focus our attention on how to keep a painting balanced, harmonious and unified. Paintings are an illusion of form, space, movement and light, and learning to paint the "whole", instead of "parts" takes a great deal of thought and practice. Becoming aware of how to unfy a painting is the first step to improving, and it is a problem that every artist must solve with each new canvas. All painting will be from life (still life, portrait or landscape). Oils or pastels. Dates: Saturday & Sunday, December 1 & 2 Fees: $200 for Members, $225 for Nonmembers Instructor Bio: Karen Winslow is a professional full-time artist, a featured artist in American Artist magazine, and a dynamic instructor.
