Floral Painting Workshop - Karen WinslowDescription: Working from life, students will be taught to simplify and compose a flower painting by: seeking rhythm and overall design; using the principles of aerial perspective and value control; and creating an impression of atmosphere and depth. Painting in mass (instead of filling in lines) and keeping the painting moving towards a unified light effect will be developed, along with color, composition, planes and edges. Special attention will be given to rendering a variety of textures including glass, metal, china and drapery, as well as capturing the characteristics of particular flowers. Instruction focuses on demonstrations and repeated one-on-one and group critiques. This class will meet indoors and possibly outdoors in the garden (depending on the weather). Karen always paints alongside of her students explaining the “how” and “why” of artistic principles, as well as sharing years of experience on the technical aspects of painting and art history. Dates: Saturday & Sunday, May 3 and 4, 9am - 4pm Fees: $200 for Members, $225 for Nonmembers Instructor Bio: Karen Winslow is a professional full-time artist, a featured artist in American Artist magazine, and a dynamic instructor. She studied at the Art Students League in New York with Frank Mason from 1973-1978. She moved to Vermont and established the WINSLOW ART STUDIO in 1979 with her husband, Jack. Since that time she has been selling paintings and raising 5 children. She teaches through demonstrations and one-on-one critiques, and her enthusiasm, years of experience, and joy of painting are contagious. Currently, she is represented by Sylvan Gallery in Clinton, CT; Powers Gallery in Acton, MA; G.C. Lucas Gallery in Indianapolis, IN; Gallery North Star in Grafton, VT; and WINSLOW ART STUDIO in Jeffersonville, VT. website: www.winslowartstudio.com
