Elements of Still Life - Karen Winslow (Painting Workshop)
Description: Under-paintings with a Limited Palette. This is a still life painting
class from life (not photographs) emphasizing painting in mass,
composing in rhythms, and understanding the 5 planes of light. Value
relationship, spatial relationship, form, temperature, edges and
keeping the painting moving towards a unified harmonious light effect
will be practiced. For those who have taken the Still Life Primer,
this is the next logical step. We will be using our gray scale with
limited or muted color to do an under-painting, focusing on form and
light first and color second. Once an under-painting has dried, the
artist can “tweak” the color or atmosphere by adding glazes or
scumbling , which we will address in the next workshop, Elements of
Still Life Painting 2. This class is suitable to all levels, and I
paint along side of my students demonstrating and explaining the
“how” and “why” of artistic principles that make a painting read as
an illusion of light, form, space and depth.
Dates: Saturday & Sunday, February 2 & 3, 9am - 4pm
Fees: $200 for Members, $225 for Nonmembers
